Sprint is becoming the first US carrier to offer a version of the HTC Flyer 7 inch Android tablet, if its plans to launch the android tablet on June 24 come true. The company is set to sell the HTC Flyer under the HTC EVO View 4G name and as the name suggests will support Sprint’s 4G WiMAX mobile broadband network.

Price for the HTC tablet has been fixed at $399.99, though it involves agreeing to a 2 year contract. Those eager to procure the tablet also get the opportunity of paying for it now if they buy a $50 Sprint gift card at any participating store, while for Sprint Premier customers, they get a chance to place an order 3 days earlier, on June 21st.

That’s not all. The wireless carrier is also making available the Flyer’s digital pen for free, though the offer is only for a limited time when they sign a contract. The digital pen otherwise costs $79.99. However, any additional services from Sprint will come for a charge, such as GPS navigation that will cost one $10 per month or $2.99 if on a daily basis, while the mobile hotspot access will cost one $29.99 every month. These apart, Sprint will also come up with wireless data plans starting at $34.99 per month for unlimited 4G data access and 3 GB of 3G data per month.

However there are two things that do not hold water with the statement. First, it’s not likely that HTC, Sprint, or Google would push Android 3.0 to this tablet, when Android 3.1 is already available. Second, we’ve already seen 7 inch tablets with Honeycomb. It’s more likely that HTC is waiting until it’s had time to customize Honeycomb with HTC Sense software.

As for the tablet specifications, the HTC EVO View 4G packs in a 1.5 GHz single core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and a 7 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel capacitive touch screen display. It runs Google Android 2.3 Gingerbread, though Sprint has made it known there will be a software update in future that will bring in Android 3.0 Honeycomb in the EVO View 4G “when it is available for 7-inch tablets.”

The latter bit has led to some speculation, since there already are a few tablet that has been announced to run on Android Honeycomb. These include those from Acer and Viewsonic. Earlier there has been a flip flop as to the EVO View coming in with Android Honeycomb.
