Lenovo ThinkPad Enterprise Android Tablet Coming This Summer

Posted on 27 April 2011 by Android

Leaked documents show that Lenovo plans to launch a business-focused tablet running Android 3.0 Honeycomb as early as June. The device is referred to as the ThinkPad Tablet or the Think Slate, and will reportedly retail for $499. The user interface has been modified to look much like the Skylight skin featured on Lenovo’s Le Pad, a device only available in China.

The Lenovo will ship a keyboard portfolio case that easily converts the tablet into a full-fledged notebook computer. The ThinkPad Tablet also sets itself apart with an optional stylus for sketching and writing directly on the capacitive touch display.

When it comes to specifications, the Think Slate rocks an NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and comes in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB storage configurations. According to the documents, this tablet comes in at 1.6 pounds, has a thickness of just 0.55 inches, and sports a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution 10.1 inch IPS LCD display. Mobile communications options will include 3G and 4G radios, although there’s no mention of carriers in the leaks.

Plenty of connectivity directly on the ThinkPad Tablet as well, with USB and micro-USB ports, a 3-in-1 SD card slot and mini-HDMI integrated into the Lenovo device. Of course Wi-Fi is an option as well, and battery life is listed as eight hours when using this method to connect.

The enterprise focus of the ThinkPad Tablet is clear, with Lenovo explaining that the new computing device will seamlessly integrate with existing IT infrastructure. Software supported on the Android tablet will include Symantec, Computrace, and McAfee security titles as well as compatibility with Cisco’s enterprise software and Microsoft ActiveSync. If Lenovo delivers this summer, you can be sure this tablet will be a hit with workers and IT managers looking to improve mobile productivity.
