Velocity Micro slashes the price of their T408 Android tablet

Posted on 11 October 2011 by Android

Velocity Micro started selling their 8-inch T408 Android tablet on September 7th for $240. Amazon proclaimed the $199 Kindle Fire 2 weeks after. With this aggressive android tablet pricing Amazon has come up with, they have pushed Velocity Micro to make some changes in their marketing because they don’t plan to be outsold. The society just dispatched a note suggesting a new $199 pricetag for the T408 tablet. It is without doubt a smart move since that is how currently hasit should have been priced at first.

Velocity Micro currently has 2 models of android tablet on the market and both are rather nice and have a good size factor for Android 2.2 tablets. Sadly, they were difficult to sell at their initial price of $240 for the 8 inch and $299 for the 10 inch version. These android tablets are not iPad killers, but rather mid-budget tablets for the Android crowd that don’t want to spend $500 on a device. While being pretty cheap, one of the main issues is the lack the native Google apps. They make up for this by being speedy, slim and entirely unlocked for all the modding needs some people like.
A fast Google search reveals that retailers including Velocity Micro’s own site seemingly did not receive the memo yet about the new pricing but we can assure you that the price cut is real. Just be patient as most retailers should update their prices in the upcoming days.

The common consumer will probably still opt for the Amazon Kindle Fire or next-gen Nook Color instead of the T408 android tablet, but that’s ok. This tablet is not really for everyone, but if you own a folder of ROMs and have XDA-dev bookmarked, you should really consider the T408 if you are in the market for a new android tablet.

If we can get our hands on a Velocity Micro tablet, we will do a full review on it to stay tuned.
