Android tablets becoming more and more popular

Posted on 11 June 2010 by Android

So I am currently waiting for the open source Google Android based tablets. I just love the idea of iPad and portable tablet device, but just don’t like the idea of closed Apple’s business concept. They are arrogant with the users with their iPhone products. Unless you jailbreak your device, you won’t be able to enjoy the application freely. Continue Reading

$88 5″ Android Tablet: Acorp EM501R

Heard about the $500+ Dell Streak Android Tablet? This is similar but is to be sold at only $88 (for distributors buying at least 1000 pieces). This is the Acorp 5″ Rockchip 600mhz ARM9 based Android tablet. This sized tablet fits just fine in most pockets and provides better view of web browser, video and apps.

Eken M001 Android tablet hacked with upgraded battery, storage, more

Posted on 09 June 2010 by Android

The Eken M001 is one of the cheapest Google Android powered touchscreen tablets around, selling for just around $100. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for and the 7 inch tablet has a fairly sluggish 600MHz processor, just 2GB of storage space, and a 1600mAh battery. While there’s only so much you can do about the processor and display, one hacker figured he wasn’t stuck with the other hardware, and after opening up the case of his Eken M001 tablet, hetweaked the heck out of it. Here is the M-001 android tablet, i give you a quick review and the gripes i have with the unit, but for the price of $130 it does a bloody good job. I also took the back off the unit to give everyone a quick look and overview of whats inside. I’m no expert but this is how i see it, and the issues i have experienced. Also it cant be successfully upgraded to 2.2.

The Chinese fake iPad version, running on Google Android

Specifications:

With the recent birth of the first Apad, the Android iRobot Apad, has come several followers, namely the Eken M003. We have gotten a hold of the latest of the Android Apad Devices and it is sub-$100 USD!

This is hard to believe, but yet, the M70003 MID Apad by Orphan Electronics is the re-incarnated Sheba of China iPad Clone devices.

Whether it is really a clone is debateable but one thing is for sure, Gadget bloggers will be going crazy when they first see the slim tablet with black face and white back running google Android 1.5 (a.k.a. Cupcake) and the most jaw dropping part is its $99.99 price tag.

iPed versus iPad: looking for Android tablets

Posted on 01 June 2010 by Android

If anyone’s coming back from China, I hope they’re bringing back an iPed, as reported on Japanese TV news. This looks like the first iPadalike to go on sale*, and a large part of its appeal is the low price ($105). However, I expect some rather more expensive devices will be shown at this week’s Computex trade show in Taiwan, starting with MSI’s Wind Pad 110, which has an ARM processor running Google’s Android mobile phone operating system. Acer, Dell and Lenovo are also tipped to enter the market at some point.

According to The Wall Street Journal: “Bob Morris, ARM’s director of mobile computing, says his company is tracking about 40 tablet-style devices being designed with ARM-based chips, plus about 10 more e-reader devices for electronic books. He estimated that ‘upwards of half’ are based on Android.” Continue Reading

Fujian Sanxi Android Tablet running Android 2.1 at Computex 2010

Posted on 01 June 2010 by Android

Computex 2010 is the show of tablets and we have gotten our hands on quite a few, and well, many of them aren’t good. So when a nice one comes around we get a bit excited. Fujian Sanxi has come out with an Android Tablet running 2.1 and a functioning version of marketplace. We think the word snappy is over used, but we think that it is the right word to describe how this tablet runs. Its running a Rockchip processor and has a finish that doesn’t make it feel cheap. The device is will be available to distributors for around $105 so we think it’ll be on the streets for about $150. For that price I’d give them my piggy bank!
